Hey everyone!
As we close into 2025, I’ve been working on a couple of things. This one took a while to get it over the line but I was recently invited to do a Q&A with Michael Fritzell from ! Which is pretty wild to think about because I was a reader and follower of his work less than 12 months ago. It’s probably the best newsletter out there covering the Asian region. So it was a huge honor to be invited.
We discussed all things Japan, things like where I’m seeing opportunities, why SaaS is interesting, and a few names already previously discussed here at Made in Japan. I highly recommend reading it in full ($). Michael has kindly allowed me to share some of the topics discussed below on where I’m seeing opportunities currently, which I thought you might find interesting!
BTW: I updated the Useful Resources Section and added some more tools that may aid your research in to Japan, so be sure to check it out!!!
As always, thanks for your support.
Happy holidays,
MIJ
Where do you currently see opportunities within Japanese equities?
There are several buckets of opportunities that excite me:
The first is the smaller cap growth companies. Large-cap, and chiefly value has significantly outperformed in recent years, and for the right reasons! Adding to that I think many foreign institutions are investing in Japan as a factor i.e. through indices like TOPIX or Nikkei225 which are also mainly large caps. So that’s where a lot of attention has gone. As a result, I think some retail investors who were the main investors that provided liquidity to small stocks also went there to chase performance.
